On Thursday, March 21st at 3:30 PM in the Social Hub, two teams, each comprising of a captain and two teammates, will compete head-to-head in a challenge. Whether teams are pre-assembled or formed on the spot, they'll be armed with a box of various fittings, tube, a press tool, and a picture detailing the objective. In a race against time, teams must swiftly and accurately complete the press task. The first team to successfully complete the press challenge according to the provided guidelines claims victory. Jessica Bannister is a Level 3 HVAC Apprentice at her family’s company, Cam Cool Refrigeration Inc., where they specialize in commercial and industrial HVACR.  She is the current President of Women in HVACR Canada. 

She is a third generation HVAC contractor, following in the footsteps of her grandfather, father and brother. She joined the family business in 2017 first working in the office and later registering as an apprentice in March 2018. 

Jessica wishes to bring awareness to women in the trades, specifically women in HVACR, encouraging young people (girls especially) to consider it as a career option.

Lesley McGlenen

The Pipe Wench

Lesley is the owner/operator of Pipe Wench plumbing & heating based out of Scotch Creek, British Columbia. She started her career in plumbing 18 years ago in Fort McMurray, Alberta where she completed her red seal in plumbing and gasfitting at NAIT.

She started her career in construction alongside her dad as a laborer, when they were in between developments the plumber offered her a job and an apprenticeship.

She opened her company in 2012 doing anything from service, renovations to new construction, commercial and everything in between.

She is currently a mentor for the Okanagan college women in trades program and believes strongly that empowered women empower women. Follow her @thepipewench to learn more and have some fun along the way.

Trevor Matthews is a Certified Training & Development Professional and a subject matter expert in commercial refrigeration systems, has worked as a technician installing, commissioning, and servicing commercial refrigeration, and HVAC systems. His professional experience and drive for lifelong personal education allows him to offer training and support within the industry. Trevor runs Refrigeration Mentor, an international training and development organization that is dedicated to training, educating, and mentoring refrigeration professionals throughout the industry.

Trevor is a Refrigeration Mechanic and has been in the Refrigeration and HVAC industry since 2004 and has worked with commercial refrigeration and HVAC companies in Canada and overseas.  Trevor completed his Red Seal in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and has also completed the Gas Fitter A Journeyman Certificate from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).
